Two suicide attacks struck Kabul within 20 minutes of each other. The first bomb was detonated by an assailant on a motorbike and killed seven of the listed journalists. The following attack – designed to harm those aiding victims of the first attack – occurred twenty minutes later and killed two of the listed journalists. In total 29 people including nine journalists were killed and scores more were injured. DAESH claimed responsibility for the crimes; it is considered the worst attack on journalists in Afghanistan in modern history, according to Al Jazeera.

Ahmad Shah
Two unknown gunmen riding a motorbike shot dead Ahmad Shah, a reporter for BBC Afghan service, as he was on his way home from work. A clear motive was not established at the time and no group took responsibility for the attack. Shah was the 10th victim of murder on Afghanistan’s most violent day for journalists in recent history following twin suicide-bombings in the nation’s capital.

Abdul Mana Arghand
Abdul Mana Arghand, a journalist for Kabul News TV, was shot dead by two unknown gunmen at Tarana Market on the outskirts of Kandahar city. He was fired upon in his car at 9am by motorbike-riding gunmen. He had previously received threats and had notified security forces of his concerns.
