NUJ(I) condemns police attack on journalists in Kolkata

The National Union of Journalists (India) strongly condemned the incident took place in Kolkata when several journalists – reporters, photographers and cameramen – covering the left front’s agitation were brutally beaten by the Kolkata police the scribes suffered injuries and some had to admitted to hospitals.
 
NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari said that NUJ(I) will send a Fact Finding Committee and appeal to the state government to setup a high level judicial committee to probe the incident and punish the guilty police officers for assaulting journalists. The NUJ(I)’s demand for the enactment of the Journalists Protection Act is endorsing this incident.
 
WBUJ President Prabir Chatterjee informed to NUJ(I) that atleast 50 media persons including women-journalists were injured in the merciless atrocity instructed by the senior police officers of Kolkata and WB police he also demanded adequate compensation to the injured journos and appeal to the state government and administration to give advisory to all authorities that this incidents could not occurs in future.
