Pakistani journalists face sever job threats
29 Aug, 2019It is for information that Dunya News group has terminated as many as 70 journalists from Lahore head quarter as a down sizing move while a list of about two hundred journalists from Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi Islamabad and offices in other cities of Dunya News group has been finalized for termination, reportedly.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) strongly condemned the Dunya News management for this brutal move make a great number of journalists jobless. President GM Jamali and Secretary General Rana Muhammad Azeem has said that media group owners in Pakistan were already not paying regular wages to the employees while this move of the Dunya News group was tantamount to financial murder of the working journalists.
“We are going to knock the court’s doors against this wave of termination and try our best to reinstate the terminated journalists,” PFUJ leaders said.
They continued that this wave may spur the other media group to terminate their employees that may add misery of the working journalists of Pakistan who were already facing hardships.
It is high time that the IFJ jump in and put pressure on the government of Pakistan to support the Pakistani journalists and save their jobs. It may be recalled that some media houses had already downsized their staff making a great number of journalists jobless.
