IJU strongly condemned attack on Media by Dera supporters in Haryana
25 Aug, 2017The Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the premier organisation of the working journalists in the country has strongly condemned the attack on media persons and their vehicles in Panchkula, Haryana by the followers of Dera Sachcha Sauda head Gurumeet Ram Rahim who was convicted in rape case by CBI special court.
In a statement President, Member Press Council of India S N Sinha and Secretary-General D. Amar, said the unprovoked and brutal attack on TV crew and other journalists by the Dera goons with stones and sharp weapons. The Dera supporters set on fire number of OB vans and media vehicles. “The assault on the media was meant to stop the information and scare away the media” they added.
We demand from the Haryana government to immediately take strongest action against the culprits of Dera and their instigators to prevent recurrence of such incidents and compensate the loss of the media, We urge upon all the governments to give adequate security cover to the scribe so that media can function in a fearless situation.
IJU called upon the working journalists in the country to protest against lack of safety to journalists in the country.
