Press Statement

India: NUJ-I demands Justice on killing of journalist Vikram Joshi

23 Jul, 2020

The National Union of Journalists(India) and the UP Journalists’ Association  expresses serious concern to the killing of the journalist Vikram Joshi and requests  Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s  to provide  one crore rupees to the family of late journalist Vikram Joshi.  NUI-I  also requests for a job to his wife.

NUJ President Ras Bihari, and Upaja Chairman Ratan Dixit said that we are deeply condemned by this heinous killing, this act has created a huge fury in the journalist fraternity. The police system has completely failed in the state, the boil in the uniform comes only on the death of their comrades; Journalist Vikram Joshi died at Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad during treatment on Tuesday night. He was shot in the head by Sarerah miscreants last Monday. The journalist was also beaten up badly by the miscreants before being shot.

He lived in Pratap Vihar, Ghaziabad, at the time of the attack, two daughters of the journalist were also sitting on the bike. In Pratap Vihar itself, on July 16, a policeman drunkenly rammed his car into the colonies, in which one person was killed and the son of the accused dressed up was secretly acquitted by the Uttar Pradesh police. This type of incidents raised questions on the working style of Ghaziabad Police.

NUJ President Ras bihari has demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder of journalist Vikram Joshi and immediately arrests the culprits. He requested the Chief Minister of the state to give a government job to his family member and to take note of the need to renovate the police system of Uttar Pradesh.
