India: NUJ (I) expresses serious concern over attack on journalist Rajiv Nayan

In a shocking incident, A senior journalist, columnist and blogger and son of the world famed eminent environmentalist Padmavibhushan Sunder Lal Bahuguna, namely Rajiv Nayan Bahuguna has been allegedly attacked by some goons in Uttarakhand.

It may be recalled that senior journalist Rajiv Nayan Bahuguna is a popular and well acclaimed name of Uttarakhand who had been associated with prestigious newspaper Nav Bharat Times, Dinman, Hindustan Hindi, Outlook and other national dailies. He is a social activist too who had struggled against the construction of Tehri Dam for several years.

The National Union of Journalists (India) expresses serious concern over the attack. NUJ President Ras Bihari and Vice President Ram Chandra Kannoujia (Central Zone) condemned the attack saying that the attack shows that everything is not going well in Uttrakhand and the state government wants to suppress the voice of the media and demands immediate high level judicial inquiry and action. NUJ(I) urges upon the chief minister Sh. Trivendra Singh Rawat to immediately intervene in the matter and demanded the arrest of the culprits to ensure the complete safety and security of the fourth estate and journalists in Uttarakhand.

The President said that the NUJ demands that high level judicial inquiry must be set up to give justice to scribe. NUJ(India) will send its Fact Finding Committee to Uttrakhand. He demanded from the Union Government and the state Government of Uttrakhand to ensure the safety of scribes.
