India : NUJ-India calls for formation of Media Council on National Press Day
16 Nov, 2022India observed the National Press Day 2022 on November 16.During the day. National Press Day is celebrated every year on November 16 to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India which was formed in 1966. National Press Day is the symbol of a free and responsible press in India as the Press Council Of India acts as a moral watchdog for the media.
On the occassion of National Press Day, Mr. Ras Bihari, President of NUJ – India has demanded for the formation of a media council in India, the formation of the National Media Commission and the creation of a National Journalist Register. Mr. ras Bihari also said that fake news has become a big problem in the country at present, which is not only dangerous for journalism but also strengthens the anti-social and anti-national forces, so journalists need to stand against fake news.
Ms.Indrani Sarkar, NUJ- India Co ordinator for International Fedaration of Journalists (IFJ), has discussed the state of press freedom in India as a whole, as well as the journalists’ constant threats and challenges following the steady invasion of digital media users.
Ms. Indrani Sarkar further said that this day represents free and responsible journalism. My best wishes to all media professionals on National Press Day. NUJ -India and IFJ stand in solidarity with journalists and media outlets who work tirelessly to uncover the truth and fight for justice.
The National Union of Journalists (India) is running a nationwide public awareness campaign on various matters related to media faternity.
