New Delhi: The National Union of Journalists – India (NUJ-I) President Ras Bihari strongly condemned the recent attack on local Punjab journalist Romesh Bahl by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) backed goons. In this incident, the journalist suffered serious injuries and multiple fractures.

The NUJI President criticised the incident and demanded immediate action against AAP MLA from Batala Sherry Kalsi for his role in the incident. Ras Bihari stressed that such violence against journalists cannot be tolerated. He demanded a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the journalist. He said that those responsible for these heinous acts must be brought to justice to prevent such incidents in the future.

Ras Bihari said that the matter should be investigated as journalist Romesh Bahl has named one of his close associates among the attackers. It is an open secret that Bahl ran stories against the MLA, which angered him. This is a serious matter and should be thoroughly investigated. He added that the incident occurred when the journalists were covering a news. It was a clear display of violence and aggression towards journalists. It is worth noting that in a
statement given from the hospital in Punjab, journalist Bahl claimed that one of the attackers has been identified as Manek Mehta, a close aide of AAP MLA Sherry Kalsi from Batala. At the same time, SSP Suhail Qasim Mir claimed that the police had identified the attackers, adding that the accused would be arrested soon.
