Umesh Paudel
Umesh Paudel, a journalist with Naya Patrika daily, was threatened over a phone call by GP Paudel regarding news about a fraud business of crypto-currency on September 11. Paudel is one of the two journalists who reported ‘Gravity Currency’ as fraud business and named GP Paudel as the head of the business. After publication of the news, GP Paudel called on the journalist’s mobile and told him: “I know police officers all over Nepal. You have done your work, now, I will start what should be done to you.”

Dilip Paudel
The managing director of a state-owned corporation Gopal Khadka issued a threat to journalist Dilip Paudel reporting on corruption on August 4 in capital Kathmandu. Khadka, the Managing Director of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), threatened journalist Dilip Paudel of Nagarik daily in the premises of the Ministry of Supplies, where Paudel was on a reporting assignment. Khadka told Paudel: “You have a family, be careful.” Paudel had first reported misappropriation of funds by Khadka while buying land for NOC. The Parliamentary Public Audit Committee had ordered an inquiry into the matter, concluding the proper procedures were not followed while buying the land.

On Monday, September 14, ex-Parliamentarian and political leader Baban Singh, while being interviewed live on Kohinoor FM, threatened to burn journalists, Shiva Puri of the Kantipur daily, Madan Thakur of the Nagarik daily and Gautam Shrestha of Avenues Television for their news reports on his party’s demonstrations in Rautahat district, in central Nepal.
