NUJ-I Statement: Indian government blocking media outlets after Pahalgam terror attack
08 May, 2025NUJI believes that any freedom comes with responsibility. Press Freedom in India is derived from “Freedom of Speech” as enshrined in the Constitution of India. Even as our Association condemns any overtures from the
Government(s) to curtail this fundamental right, we promote and support responsible journalism.
We strongly believe that those who cherish freedom of the Press should also be conscious of not crossing the line. Press Council of India has codified the ethics of journalism, though meant for the print media, can well be followed by all media organisations and media persons.
In this New Media Era, good journalism can flourish only if journalistic ethics are strictly followed.
However, we caution the Government against any attempt to stifle the media, we urge upon the our journalists fraternity to strictly follow journalistic ethics and be more responsible while reporting and expressing opinion as Nation is supreme, its sovereignty cannot be compromised.
