NUJ(I) condemns attacks on journalists, OB vans in Punchkula
25 Aug, 2017The National Union of Journalists (India) and its state affiliate Delhi Journalists Association strongly condemned the attacks on the media persons and their OB vans in Punchkula and other parts of Haryana today. The NUJ(I) & DJA demands urgent action from the authorities to book the culprits.
According to the inputs from state that Dera followers targeted the media persons. One OB vans was set on fire and two others were damaged in Panchkula. Aajtak cameraman was hurt and his camera damaged.
NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari and Delhi Journalists Association (DJA) President Manohar Singh have condemned the attack and said this is failure of administration to give proper protection to the media person. The NUJ(I) reiterated its demand for a Journalists Protection Act to ensure safety and end impunity for attacks on journalists.
NUJ(I) Secretary General Ratan Dixit and DJA General Secretary Pramod Kumar said in a statement, “We demand adequate compensation to the injured journalist; and appeal to the state authorities to ensure that such incidents would not occur in future. In addition to demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
