NUJ(I) condemns brutal killing of journalist in Bihar’s Samastipur
04 Jan, 2017The National Union of Journalists (India) is shocked over the growing attacks on journalists in Bihar. The latest brutal attack on a journalist, Brajesh Kumar, by about five-six unidentified men at Salkhani village of Bibhutipur distirct is highly condemnable. The assailants opened fire Brajesh Kumar killing him on the spot. Brajesh was associated with a leading Hindi daily.
Condemning in strongest words the cold-blooded murder of the young and promising journalist, Brajesh Kumar NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari pointed out that Brajesh Singh is the third journalist killed in Bihar in nine months. The murder took place exactly 50 days after a Hindi newspaper scribe was gunned down at Sasaram in west Bihar. Earlier, on May 13, a senior journalist of Hindi daily Hindustan, Rajdeo Ranjan, was shot dead allegedly by the men of Siwan strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin.
Describing the murder of Brajesh Kumar as “barbarous”, NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari further said Brajesh was murdered in broad day-light. “We offer our heartfelt condolences to Brajesh’s family, and implore the authorities to bring those responsible for the murder to justice. We also demand the police and judiciary to ensure that the culprits do not go unpunished.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Brajesh Kumar,” said NUJ(I) Secretary General Ratan Dixit. “Too many journalists in Bihar are being attacked with impunity. We demand immediate investigation into the murder and justice to the family. We call upon all the national and international bodies to condemn the act and this brutal form of silencing should end,” he added.
