NUJ(I) condemns brutal murder of journalist Dharmendra Singh
12 Nov, 2016Condemning horrific murder of Journalist Dharmendra Singh, Sasaram, Bihar, National Union of Journalists (India) demanded immediate judicial probe of the incident.
“It is high time that the Government should come forward with Journalist Protection Act and family members of journalist Dharmendra Singh be paid with sufficient compensation,” said Ras Bihari, President NUJ(I). Quoting Press Council of India report, he pointed out that as many as 90 of Journalists have been killed in this country since last two and half decades. “But in all these cases conviction rate is abysmally low due to influence from different quarters. In this year, 4 journalists have been murdered in Bihar this is an alarming figure and a question mark for Press Freedom in the state,” he added.
“Condemning in strongest words the cold-blooded murder of a young and promising journalist, Dharmendra Singh, Sasaram, Bihar, the NUJ (I) and state affiliate NUJ (Bihar) demand urgent action against those who incited and carried out the brutal murder. We demand an immediate investigation into the murder and justice to the family. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, and implore the authorities to bring those responsible for the murder to justice, and break the cycle of violence,” said Ratan Dixit, Secretary General of NUJ(I).
The NUJ (Bihar) unit General Secretary Rakesh Praveer informed that all district unit is observing ‘BLACK DAY’ today and will submit a memorandum to CM, District Magistrate of the State. “We took the matter seriously and pressurized the government to immediate book the culprit,” he added.
