NUJ(I) condemns scribe’s murder in Indore

The National Union of Journalists (India) strongly condemned the brutal killing of Shyam Sharma (45) in Indore on May 15.
According to information, two bike-borne masked men allegedly slit the throat of the scribe at Kshipra area on Monday morning. Shyam Sharma, a journalist working with a city-based evening newspaper, ‘Agniban’, was on his way to Manglia Square in his car when he was stopped by the assailants.
NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari and Secretary General Ratan Dixit condemned the murder in strongest words. Describing the murder as “heinous act”, NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari said  Shyam Sharma was murdered in broad day-light.  “NUJ(I) and JUMP, the Madhya Pradesh unit of NUJ(I), offer heartfelt condolences to Sharma’s family, and implore the authorities to bring those responsible for the murder to justice. We demand for the enactment of the Journalists Protection Act,” Ras Bihari said in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Shyam Sharma,” said NUJ(I) Secretary General Ratan Dixit. “Too many journalists in the country are being attacked with impunity. We demand immediate investigation into the murder and justice to the family. We call upon all the national and international bodies to condemn the act and this brutal form of silencing should end. We also demand from the state government for adequate compensation to the grieved family and give instruction to the police to ensure that the culprits do not go unpunished,” he added.
Delhi Journalists Association (DJA) Executive meeting held today also condemned the murder of the journalist and demanded compensation to the family of the scribe.
