PFUJ Condemns False Cases Against Secretary General Rana Azeem

15 Oct, 2023
Lahore: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the current regime to register false cases against the vocal journalists under baseless allegation. A case has been initiated against Rana Mohammad Azeem alleging him tempering of electricity meter to defame him and pressurize merely to silent his criticism. It continued that such actions were tantamount to attack on the freedom of media and demanded that such attitude against the media person must be stopped.
The PFUJ Secretary General Rana Muhammad has been criticizing the undemocratic attitude of the current regime & bureaucracy and political parties including PMLN in his TV talk show and Vlogs. A fake case has been registered against him under charges of a tempered electricity meter while he has been receiving calls from unknown numbers to abstain from the criticism. It is worth mentioning that he had also been subject to different incidents of threats and attack on his home while some unknown persons had also hit his car when he was travelling back to home from his office  couple of months ago.
President PFUJ GM Jamali and members of he Federal Executive Council (FEC) has said that journalists were duty bound to criticize undemocratic moves and decision of the government and political parties but they did not correct themselves and there had been a number of registration of false cases against the media-men just to threat them which is unacceptable. They continued that such attitude must be stopped and fake case registration against Rana Azeem must be quashed and media-men be allowed to work freely otherwise they would be forced to stage countrywide protests and file defamation suit in the court of law.
