Mohammad Nasir Mudasir
On December 15, 53-year-old Mohammad Nasir Mudasir, station manager and senior program organiser for Mili Payam or National Message Radio Station and founding member of AIJA, was gunned down at approximately 4:30pm in Muhammed Agha District of Logar Province southern Kabul. AIJA’s initial investigations have revealed that two unidentified armed men opened fire on Mudasir as he was leaving his workplace at the radio station to go home. Mudasir received several bullets and died on the spot. AIJA provincial leader, Khan Wali Ahmadzai said that Mudasir and other workers at the station had received persistent threats over the past two years.

Nematullah Zahir
Journalist Nematullah Zahir, a local reporter for Kabul-based Ariana TV, was killed in a bomb blast in Helmand province, in southern Afghanistan on Friday, November 4. He was on a reporting trip with two other reporters near Lashkargah city when the incident occurred. AIJA Helmand president Zainullah Stanekzai and a reporter of Zwandon TV survived the explosion. It was not immediately clear whether the journalists were targeted or fell prey to an ambush.

Yaqub Sharafat
Yaqub Sharafat, senior provincial reporter for the state-run Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) was shot dead by unknown armed men in Rasala area of the provincial capital Qalat on October 16. He sustained serious gunshot injuries and died on the way to the hospital. The police has begun its investigation but is yet to arrest anyone. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
